Exploring Innovations in Custom Manufacturing: Insights from My PhD Research

As a researcher dedicated to advancing the field of custom manufacturing through technology, I have had the privilege of contributing to significant academic discussions with my work. My PhD research explores user-centered approaches and the practical applications of augmented reality (AR) in custom manufacturing. Here, I present two key publications that encapsulate the findings and implications of my studies.

1. Informing User-Centred Approaches to Augmented Custom Manufacturing Practices

Published in the prestigious proceedings of the 28th International Conference of the Association for Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia (CAADRIA), this paper delves into the nuanced dynamics of user interaction with augmented custom manufacturing technologies. Co-authored with Glenda Caldwell, Müge Belek Fialho Teixeira, and Markus Rittenbruch, the paper is a cornerstone of Chapter 4 in my thesis and received the Young CAADRIA Award (YCA) in 2023. This recognition underscores the paper’s national and international impact within the academic community.

2. Employing AR Mockups to Imagine Future Custom Manufacturing Practices

Presented at OzCHI '22, the 34th Australian Conference on Human–Computer Interaction, this study—co-authored with Glenda Caldwell, Markus Rittenbruch, and Müge Belek Fialho Teixeira—explores the potential of AR mockups in envisioning future custom manufacturing settings. This publication forms the basis of Chapter 5 in my dissertation and offers insights into how AR can transform traditional manufacturing practices.

Through these publications, my co-authors and I aim to shed light on the evolving landscape of manufacturing technologies and their interaction with user-centric design principles. We believe these studies not only contribute to academic discourse but also pave the way for practical applications that benefit industry and academia alike.

Stay tuned for more updates on my research and future publications!
